What is Joomla™?
I have had many of our hosting current and new hosting clients ask me this question lately "What is Joomla?" and "Why is it Free?" So I am going to try to answer some of this questions in this blog and show how vidatec has made it easy for clients to jump into this powerful content management system (CMS) Call "Joomla".
What is Joomla™?
Joomla™ is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.
What's a content management system (CMS)?
A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Since the CMS manages all your content, you don't have to.
Why is it Free?
Joomla is a open source product which under GPL License Agreement, which means it free to distribute and use. When a software is under the GPL License you are not allowed to charge for the product you can use it and distribute but it has be available for FREE!. There are many Open Source product out there such as Drupal, Wordpress, osCommerce and many more. All of this product are Free to use on your site. For more information on GPL license just click this link. Even though Joomla is Free we still encourage user to contribute to the Joomla Project. Find out how you can contribute to the Joomla Project Here.
